district of Kowloon, and were found guilty of manslaughter, two other Privates of the Regiment who were tried

with them, and were present at the commission of the Offence being acquitted.

The only

evidence adduced

by the Crown at the Trial, to connect the prisoners with the Offence, was supplied by the prisoners themselves in the statements, or reports made by them to the Subadar of the Guard and their commanding officer for the time being

Richmond, and the facts as disclosed by the prisoners' statements and their other evidence taken at the Trial, are shortly as follows:- In consequence of a private of the 8th Regiment having been robbed on the evening of the 7th instant, in the vicinity of the camp of the detachment

of the 8th Punjaubees at Kowloon, and also of a Subadar of the same corps having been attacked, and severely, if not dangerously, wounded (by stabbing), also in the immediate neighbourhood
