Dear Sir,
Your note of yesterday reached me late last night and I now hasten to answer it.
Hongkong 8th October, 1860.
circumstances of the case, I consider it his duty to do, and I feel inclined to think, that he will adhere to his original intention, to retain the man as prisoner on board the Elbe, until he can be brought up for trial by Court Martial on board this Prussian Majesty's Ship Arcona from which he deserted.

When the officer in charge of the warrant went on board the Elbe on Saturday afternoon he was told by the Commander of that vessel that he would not then give up the deserter; but would confer with me as to the advisability of sending the man to Court on Monday.
I saw the first Officer of the Elbe that evening and the Commander Charles May, Esq.
