Now in the hands of the Official Administrator of Intestate Estates. I should add that when the contents of the chest were handed to Mr Newman, it was not supposed to be of any danger, and no office had ever taken part in the transaction branch of the business but himself and the Board of Trade.
This, as well as I can recollect, was the explanation given to me at the time by Mr Rennie, the Auditor General, who at my desire instituted an enquiry into the state of the office after Mr. Newman's death. Mr. Rennie is at present in England on sick leave; he knows more about the case than any one now in the Colony; and I am sure he will supply any further information on the subject, if desired by any...
