the Neighbouring Country, and also to hire some foreigners in Hong Kong to assist

the said Chin-que-you in such attempt, That I had no idea of deriving any pecuniary or other benefit whatsoever from the hiring of such Steamer, or such foreigners aforesaid and I was aware that I was not acting against the law, and not in any way offending my own Knowledge of right and wrong. Assured that a mock injury had been caused to my native place by the Hakas in question I Cooperated in hiring such Steamer and such foreigners,
and we James Baker and Thomas Brazil for ourselves severally say,

That we took no part whatsoever in the transactions connected with the hiring of the said Steamer, engaging the said foreigners or with the subsequent Operations at Chow Achoon beyond continuing our avocations as Master and Chief Officer of the said Steamer, which employ we have both held for some time
And we the said Tam Achoy, James Baker, and Thomas Brasil severally further say -

That as a proof of our not having willfully broken the law we allege that we have applied to the Government for the use of a Gun boat to Cooperate with the said Steamer in the said operations and for leave to charter a steamer and that such application was made through the Registrar General,
