by them to purposes of endowment, and that the Colony should contribute a like amount annually towards the support of the College. I see no objection to this proposal, provided the college would in return for the Colonial grant consent to the nomination by this Government of pupils from time to time for education as Interpreters. In such case I would even recommend a larger grant than £40, as the Colonial Government have at all times the greatest difficulty in finding efficient interpreters for the different Departments. I may mention that at the present time the Office of Interpreter to the Supreme Court with Salary of £400 is vacant, and I see no immediate prospect of being able to fill it.
