Henry Fletcher Hauer being duly sworn,
states, - I am acting Vice Consul at Whampoa - I held an Inquest on the body of Davis. - I attended him on the 18th June, about 9 o'clock in the morning. He was lying in a state of great weakness in the abdomen, I said there was a very small chance of his recovery - I asked him, "were you stabbed by Henry M. Codd." He said "Yes," I read out to him the statement which he made. He made his mark to it.

Deposition of Peter Davis read.- I was stabbed last evening at about half past 8 by Henry M. Codd. - There was no quarrel previously – I asked him saying, "Harry, have you been getting into any quarrel ashore" - he drew out his knife and stabbed me in the stomach. This was on the deck of Opium vessel forward. I came aft and said to Mr. Holloway "I am bleeding - I have had no quarrel with the prisoner."
Case for prosecution.
