Cross examined. - Prisoner said it as if he was trying to justify his conduct. - I had questioned him about the Deceased being an Infidel.

Richard Lewer, being duly sworn, states- I am a Medical Practitioner at Whampoa, - on the evening of Sunday the 17 June I was sent for to the Epsom, I found Davis in the cabin. suffering from an incised wound in the abdomen, - I saw it was a serious wound. Intestines were protruding from the Orifice of the wound. I immediately concluded it was a Mortal wound, but I sent out for another Medical man, (Dr Simpson) and the ship's boat was sent for the Surgeon of the "Highflyer". Davis died about 6 from the effects of that wound undoubtedly, - I told Davis I thought it was all over with him, or that he was past this world. He appeared to understand me, and said he should never want his shoes anymore, - [Knife shown. It was a likely instrument to produce such a wound.]
