There was no Hotel to accommodate me; furniture cannot here be purchased ready made; there was therefore no option but to borrow from neighbours; and notwithstanding the kindness and liberality with which the immediate wants of my family were supplied, we were subjected to inconvenience and discomfort for many weeks.

To prevent a recurrence of such unpleasantness the Legislative Council determined unanimously, that Government House should be furnished. A sum of £525 was voted; all the rooms have accordingly been supplied with necessary articles of furniture, and the Surveyor General reports that a small annual grant, of say £50, ought to keep the whole of the furniture in good repair.

Of the amount voted only £387.13.2 has been expended, of which £117.5 has been laid out on repairs and additional furniture for the public rooms, and £270.8.2 on the bed rooms and private apartments.
