58.

Convened at my desire on more than 2 or 3 occasions, in order that they might confirm the fact of their having actually paid over to me the various amounts. And I again assert that, I never from the first, denied the receipts thereof.

Query No 5.- I am ignorant of any returns having been rendered falsely, nor have I placed any receipts or other Documents before the Acting Harbor Master for signature which were not to the best of my belief strictly correct- as can be vouched for by production of Colonial Treasury Receipts.

This must be an error as on reference to my Answers to the Honorable The Colonial Secretary's previous list of Queries, I did not suppress any such information.

Query 8.7- This question was also answered truthfully personally to The Honorable The Colonial Treasurer; in the presence of Mr. Harris, (see Certificate attached) also to the Auditor General in the presence of Mr. Thomsett, part from Shroff, balance from my own private resources, moreover this Query was answered in reply 8:4 to the Honorable The Colonial Secretary's query of corresponding number put to me on or about 27th or 28th ultimo.

I have (Signed) Henry Gunthorpe.

(The copy) Memorandum to Colonial Secretary.
