representing to him the difficulty in which I was placed and the inconvenience to the Public Service of appointing to the Executive Council one not permanently holding Office under the Crown, he at once placed his services entirely at my disposal - and he did so with the knowledge that I had recommended to Grace the Attorney General for the vacant seat, and that consequently in the event of his not returning to his own Office of Attorney General, he would probably have to resign his seat in Executive Council to the gentleman selected permanently to succeed him.
