3. I greatly regret the necessity for this step on the part of the Auditor General, whose absence, as an able and efficient Officer, will be greatly felt, but I have no alternative.
4. The difficulty of supplying Mr Rennie's place was so great that only one arrangement, though I admit not altogether unexceptionable, could meet it.
5. I have accordingly appointed Mr F. W. Mitchell as the Acting Post Master, who is well versed in accounts to the temporary vacancy.
6. Mr. Mitchell in less than two months from this date will revert to his actual post as Chief Clerk in the Post Office, and will then have more leisure to attend to the additional duties imposed upon him.
