of Service - I was appointed on the 5th November 1845 Clerk of the Supreme Court, and have since successively filled the offices of Deputy Registrar and Registrar of the Supreme Court - the last is the post I now hold and is the highest I can be appointed to in the Judicial Department.

Under these circumstances I venture to request that Your Excellency will forward my application and that he will be pleased to recommend it to the favorable consideration of the Home Authorities.

My Lord Duke,

I have the honor to report that the state of Mr. Rennie's health, as Auditor General's, is such as to necessitate his instant departure for Europe, and that the necessary leave has been brought before the Executive Council and duly sanctioned.

His Grace
The Duke of Newcastle
