Arriving at Macao late in the afternoon of Saturday last, I proceeded on Monday morning with His Excellency's letter and delivered it in person to the Comm. du danh (the Office administering Government at Macao, in the absence of the Governor) and I was assured by the Commandant that Mr Marques, the Procurador of Macao would be directed to render me every assistance in discovering the persons referred to in His Excellency's letter.
Taking along with me the complainant, I proceeded in company with the Procurador to the Barracoon pointed out by the complainant as the one from which he had made his escape, and in which he said he had left his kidnapped companions. We found this place almost empty, the coolies having been already shipped
