My Lord Duke,

I have the honor to report that the services of Deputy Assistant Commissary General Baynes being required in his own department, that officer resigned on the 16th instant the post of Chief Clerk and Cashier in the Colonial Treasury.

This resignation enabled me to carry out my intention to reduce the staff of the Treasurer and I have accordingly provisionally appointed

His Grace The Duke of Newcastle, &c. &c. &c.
