additions to be made to the Salaries of the second and third clerks in this Department

36. I have suggested out of reference to the opinion expressed by the Committee of the unofficial Members of the Council that small addition be made to the Salary of the Deputy Registrar the Supreme Court; and an addition of £100 per Annum to the Salary of the Crown Solicitor - I am of Opinion, however, that the Salary of the Crown Solicitor ought to be raised from £300 to £400, and this completes my sketch for a fixed Civil List.- Supreme Court.

38. I am of Opinion, however, that on a vacancy recurring, the Office of deputy Registrar may be abolished as unnecessary

37. Vide Committee's report on the Harbor Master's Department

The constantly recurring alterations in the Salaries of the subordinate Officers have destroyed anything like uniformity of salary between corresponding ranks.

It will be observed that I have endeavoured to correct this by establishing different grades, and placing as far as possible the Officers of the same rank in the several Offices upon the same footing. The Registrar General's Office is the only exception - having been lately established, and being altogether an exceptional case.
