27. The Colonial Chaplain receives £700 - I recommend that his Salary be raised to £800.

28. These two offices may remain as at present - Clerk of the Councils, and Registrar General.

29. The Registrar of the Supreme Court receives £600. This Salary should be increased to £800 per annum (vide Committee's Report).

30. The Office of Colonial Surgeon was originally established in 1844 on a Salary of £600 with private practice. In 1854 it was given to an Officer of the Military Medical Staff on a reduced Salary of £200. In February 1858 it was raised to £500 - private practice being forbidden. "I think for reasons which I shall explain in a Separate Despatch the Colonial Surgeon should be allowed to engage in private practice under the same limitation as the Surveyor General and that under these circumstances £500 a year would be a sufficient Salary.
