Treasury Chambers.
My Deet. 8 DEC. 1859.
"I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to transmit to you herewith a copy of a Letter from Her Majesty's Minister at Washington, Relative to the Effects of his late son J. J. Brown, formerly of the Mercantile Marine, drowned in Swallow River, and I am to request that you will move the Duke of Newcastle to instruct the Governor of Hongkong, to ascertain whether the Official Administrator of Intestate Estates in that Colony, has taken charge of the Effects.
By some oversight at the Treasury Office, the dated copy of this letter was not sent - therefore this duplicate of it is annexed.
I am at the same time sending a draft to O' Hanrahan, informing him that his passage allowance has been granted and a copy of the despatch announcing the ground of his Pension which I understand the Duke wishes him to have."
