2nd return. Eff. 25 April.
Intention
I suppose that some change of the salary and allowances will take place and that some communication will be made on the subject between Sir E. Lytton and Mr. Merwall. On the whole I think this little matter may be put by.
I have always been in favour of private practice; though I admit that there is much to be said on both sides, & that it is chiefly a languid question.
Apr 26
I love to think that Mr. Merivale has left for Nice. I have an impression that this arrangement should be reconsidered; & I daresay I shall hear from Mr. Merivale in confirmation of that impression.
