and for reduction of charges, it adopts the provisions for those purposes contained in the Gas Works Clauses Act, 1847.
When it is found expedient to confer upon the Company powers of interference with private property, such powers are usually given by incorporating with the Special Act the appropriate provisions of the Lands Clauses Consolidation Act, 1845.
"The Chester Gas Act, 1858" (21 & 22 Vict. c. 6, Local) and "The British Gas Light Company, Limited (Sculcoates & Kingston upon Hull) Gas Act, 1858" (21 & 22 Vict. c. 17, Local) may be referred to as instances, the former of the incorporation of a Gas Company by a Special Act, under the provisions of the Companies Clauses Consolidation Act, 1845; the latter of a Company already incorporated under the Joint Stock Companies Acts, 1856, 1857, obtaining powers by Special Act.
