Establishment of a Gas Company

directed by the Lords of

the Committee of Privy Council for Trade to request that His Grace may be informed that in compliance with his wish the papers in question were sent to the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, and my Lords have received from that Officer the letter dated 30th Sept 1859, of which a copy is inclosed herewith, and also the copy referred to in that letter, and which is inclosed herewith, of provisions contained in an Instrument constituting a registered Gas Company.

Your letter further stated that the Duke of Newcastle would also be glad to be favoured with any observations which My Lord's experience may suggest as being applicable to the Establishment of a Gas Company in a British Colony by local legislation.

My Lords do not know that they can assist His Grace better than by stating the mode of legislation pursued in this country for the same purpose.

The measures taken have two principal objects - vizt (I) The Constitution of the Company and (II) The conferring upon it the requisite powers, and subjecting it to proper restrictions & conditions.
