Sir,
211461
Colonial Secretary's Office, Victoria, Hong Kong,
26th September 1859.
The widow of the late Edward How, Master of the ship "Gabalva" having applied for information as to her husband's effects, I have ascertained (by direction of His Excellency the Governor, given under instructions from the Secretary of State) that a sum of two Rupees and two pence - (say 92 cents) has been paid on such account into the Colonial Treasury by the official Administrator of Intestate Estates.
At the current rate of Exchange (4/9 per dollar) this sum is the equivalent of £16-16-10 and I am instructed by His Excellency the Governor to desire that you will pay this amount to Mrs How, whose address is given, in her letter to Her Majesty's Treasury as High Street, Bideford.
