Nor. Parrant was not a person to be re-employed under Government. That Gentleman informed in answer to his memorial that no claim of his upon Government could be recognised further than for the arrears of Salary from the date of his suspension to the date of the abolition of his office - which were granted him.

The despatch to the Governor containing this decision conveyed at the same time the Secretary of State's sanction of the abolition of Mr Parrant's Office - which had until 7th April 1849 been delayed.

Mr Tarrant upon the receipt of this decision made application to the Governor for re-employment, which petition the Governor did not entertain.

Mr Parrant then forwarded a memorial to the Secretary of State, praying that as he had only been granted Salary from the date of his suspension to the date of the abolition of his office in the Colony
