The Surgeon General of British Guiana on the other hand states in his report that the Passengers had access to the Poop deck, and that there was left for their use on the main deck a space only equal to 1088 superficial feet.

as well as the report of the Fumigation Agent General for British Guiana confirmed as it is by the breach officers' measurement (as it may be presumed he would not have given the measurement of a part of the Ship to which the Emigrants had access) all serve to prove that a space of not less than 7 superficial feet for each adult was available for exercise upon the decks.

If the statements of the Surgeon General's report were correct the mortality might well be ascribed amongst other causes to the Emigrants being allowed for exercise less than half the space required by law; but the weight of evidence is all against his statement, for the Certificate of the Government Surveyor of this Colony,
