be vacant (as I almost anticipate) by the
time this application shall reach the
Colonial
office, I would give it my strong
recommendation.
Mr. Loney
was
highly spoken of by
Captain Hotham, and other officers of H. M. S. "Calcutta", and gave every satisfaction
to this Government when employed during the troublous season of 1837/1838 in the
preservation of Security and order in Hongkong Harbor
I have always thought and said
that an energetic Master Royal Navy was the proper person to fill this post-
