an absence of a few years during
the latter part of Sir George Bonham's and beginning of Sir John Bowring's Governorship,
on my return to the Colony I was employed in
reorganizing and improving
the Gaol, the Prison discipline,
testing thoroughly the practicability of introducing profitable prison labor. My services in that Department have been on several occasions
acknowledged by Government
in a manner most gratifying to me.
