personally acquainted with Mr Fitzpatrick but I am credibly informed that he did not arrive in Singapore until some years after I had left- he certainly was not a resident there in my time.

I take the liberty of remarking as Mr. Anstey has stated that Sir George Bonham will be referred to by the Secretary of State for further particulars, that during the whole of the time he was Governor of Hongkong, I was employed in the Government service under him and held the offices of General Interpreter and Assistant Superintendent of Police.

I beg respectfully to request that a Copy of this letter, may be forwarded to the Secretary of State.

I have, &c.,

(Signed) D.R. Caldwell.

(True Copy)

Colonial Secretary's Office.
