I beg to remind the Convention of the Government, and humbly submit that having discharged the onerous duties of Acting Governor during a period more pacific than ordinary, and without anxiety and responsibility, on my renunciation from Colonial funds of all claim to £230 a year for a private Secretary, I am entitled to the kind consideration of Her Majesty's Government.

As to the prosperity and progress of the Colony during the period in which I have had the honour of directing its Government, the Blue Book and the general statistics will afford ample materials for judgment, and to these I must respectfully but confidently refer rather than hazard remarks to be,

With the highest respect,

Sir,

Your most Obedient, Humble Servant,

John Bowring
