Appointment being made by the Colony to the office at present provisionally filled by myself, my pretensions to such appointment may receive consideration.
I am loath to speak of my qualifications for the high position to which I aspire, but I have received permission from the Vice Chancellor, Sir W. P. Wood, to refer to him in support of any application I may make to His Majesty's Government for appointment to office, and the Vice Chancellor will receive by this mail satisfactory assurances that I have justified his recommendation of me as standing among the leading firms in the Colony, such as Jardine Matheson & Co.
If you are able to form an opinion that it is desirable that a person of local knowledge and experience should be appointed, and if you should consider me worthy of such preferment, I trust that my application will be favourably received.
