Finding my health so very much impaired from illness contracted in the execution of my duties at Hong Kong, at this moment only recovering from a third attack of Fever, and being on sick leave; my medical adviser, (whose Certificate I have herewith the honor to enclose,) strongly urges the necessity of my retiring into the Country for the benefit of perfect rest and pure air, and that I should relinquish all thoughts of returning to China;
