To W.J. Muren Esqr Colonial Secretary

Mem

On the 17 of May 1855 the Colonial Secretary, put into my hand (in his Office) for perusal, a letter from the Secretary of State for the Colonies (Sir R. Molesworth) dated 19 April 1855, referring to a Dispatch from Lord John Russell the Governor of Hong Kong dated 25 June 1855, 1.23, in which authority was given to provide the Harbor master with a house, or an equivalent for one; and directing that the instructions contained in his Lordship's letter were to be carried out - this was the first intimation I had received of any answer to my applications of the 4th April 1855.

June 1855 4:32 No official Information was ever communicated to me on the subject, as it ought to have been; but, from having seen Sir R. Molesworth's letters I was induced, after waiting a month for some official notification, to address the Colonial Secretary on the subject.

Harbor Master's Office Hong Kong 18 January 1856

Sir,

With reference to your letter

To J.J. Muren Esqr Colonial Secretary
