Understanding that the office of Colonial Surgeon at Hongkong is vacant I beg most strongly to commend to your notice Mr. John Falconer, a member of this College, who has been for some time anxious to obtain an appointment in China.
Mr. Falconer has been known to me intimately for the last seven years, during two of which he held a highly honourable appointment in this College, gained by severe competition, and I had many opportunities of judging of his talents, professional skill, and gentlemanly deportment, and I have no hesitation in saying that I consider him peculiarly qualified to fill the situation now vacant, and cannot doubt, should he succeed in obtaining it, that he will reflect the highest credit upon those who have promoted his wishes. Should further testimonials be required than those Mr. Falconer now presents, I am sure that every member of the Council of this Institution would with pleasure re-echo the sentiments above expressed.
