This gentleman acted for several months, a few days only being wanting to complete the leave. I scarcely think it would be paying the salaries if he were not to be allowed to continue.

In this reference, pray bear in mind the Bishop of Winchester's testimonials. The gentleman has the highest testimonials. Mean people, but new clergymen should not be turned out.

There was a clergyman who was forced to leave his Parish to avoid arrest, &c., on principle I think such a man objectionable. If a man in Mr. Driving's position refuses to resign to the Governor, he must resign, and it must devolve on H.E. to select a successor.

By referring to an incumbent, the Secretary of State has a man imposed on him, whom he may not approve, and who may not be quite fit for the place, and the Bishop of England may have a clergyman imposed on him who is not to his liking.

I do not say that this must be the result. I only think that there is some probability of such an event coming to pass.
