I am directed by Mr Secretary Labouchere to acknowledge the receipt of your memorial without date bringing into consideration the circumstances which induced you to resign the office of Crown Solicitor in Hong Kong, and praying to be compensated for the loss you have in consequence sustained, either by a money payment from the funds of the Colony or by an Appointment in some other Colony.
I am to acquaint you in reply that Mr Labouchere cannot acknowledge any claim on your part either to compensation or to re-employment, but that he will note your name for the latter should a suitable occasion offer itself.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
