In Advisers adhere to their former opinion "that my constitution having suffered in England as my Medical cause a shock, my return to Hong Kong will in all probability cause a relapse of the disorder from which I am slowly recovering and prove fatal to me." It is under these painful circumstances that I am now compelled to respectfully make a most urgent and earnest appeal to Your Lordship.

Since my appointment as a Government Officer, I have been a subscribing member of the Superannuation Fund and on all occasions have exerted my energies to the utmost on behalf of the Public Service, and I do cherish the hope that Your Lordship's charitable consideration of my position will not allow this - the appeal of a faithful servant; to pass unheeded.

In conclusion, I have the honor to notify to Your Lordship that the Twelve months leave of absence granted by His Excellency Sir John Bowring, Governor of Hong Kong, on the 11th day of March will expire on the same date next, and I have the honor to humbly petition that Your Lordship will be pleased to obtain for me an extension of Six Months leave, such leave to commence from that date, similar favors having been acceded on former occasions to Officers in Colonial Service.
