I should here state that

a guard was sent, composed of 22 non-commissioned officers and

men of the 59th Regiment and seven European Constables, the latter to act as Turnkeys and the whole under the Command of Lieutenant Shinkwin of the 59th Regiment

The rate at which the vessel

$25 for each Chinese, $35 for

each of the guard and $60 for the officer, the Ship finding provisions

and the men have been ordered

after effecting the debarkation their prisoners to proceed in the

Ship to Singapore and return by the first Steamer. I expect they will be absent from the Colony

about three weeks.

I have addressed the Governor of the Straits' Settlements requesting his kind offices on their behalf.

It must be recollected

that in the present Monsoon it

is absolutely necessary

that they

return in a Steamer, and that as Admiral Sir Michael Seymour

could not

spare a

a war Steamer
