Between 500 and 600 of the surrected class were recently apprehended on different occasions to the Police, and subjected to examination - Such of them as could not produce any one to vouch for their respectability or their being in the Colony for honest purposes were set aside for deportation, and the opportunity was taken to get rid of a large number of prisoners in Gaol, well known to the Police, and many of them accustomed to be in and out of the Gaol for years past.
This happily relieved the crowded condition of the Gaol premises.
