etiquette between the Justices and his brother Magistrates, but that the non-official Justices considered it more convenient to the Government than to the Austen to be the parties offending them.

It is with much pleasure that I now report the ready Cooperation of the entire body of Magistrates, whose assistance it has become necessary to seek in the present condition of the Colony; for it has been deemed advisable to detach one man from his magisterial duties, and to place him solely over the Police, until at least the troublous period of the Chinese new year (26 January) shall have passed.
