(True Copy)

Colonial Secretary.

(Copy) No. 16.

Sir,

12

Government offices, Victoria, Hongkong, 6th January 1857.

I beg

most cordially

to thank Your Excellency for the kind, prompt and useful aid which

you have been so good as to proffer for the service of Her Britannic Majesty in the present position of this Colony and of affairs

To His Excellency

Admiral Guerin

Commander in Chief of Her Imperial Majesty's Navy in China.

I made the following corrections: 1. "Migued" -> "Miguel" (spelling correction) 2. "Honghong" -> "Hongkong" (spelling correction) 3. "Abeg" -> "I beg" (spelling correction and rejoining broken sentence) 4. "d as to" -> "good as to" (reasonable adding of words to complete sentence) 5. "and which which" -> "aid which" (correcting repetition and rejoining broken sentence) 6. "Her Britannic Majesty in the present position of this Colony and of affairs" (rejoining broken sentence) 7. "the service of" added to make the sentence complete. 8. "Her Imperial Majesty's" (correcting "this Imperial Majesty's" to match the earlier "Her Britannic Majesty")
