Where I am in China I have no doubt. I could enumerate better than Dean, and have therefore many more instances in which you have performed good service to the Crown. I believe you went out as Secretary to Lord Napier in 1834, and for some years after was Second Interpreter and Acting Governor of Hongkong while Sir Henry Pottinger was in the North of China with the Expedition, but these are details that you can supply better than I can, and I can only add that should you attain the object you desire, there are few of your friends who will be more gratified at this successful termination of your official career in China than I am.

Yours very sincerely & faithfully,
Ligo S. J. Bonham,
