In October of the same year, Mr Johnston's health having
most materially suffered in consequence of his long stay and
arduous duties in China, he
obtained leave to come home to
England for the benefit of his
health, but again returned to
Hong Kong in September 1845.

After his arrival at Hong Kong
he served as Chief Secretary
and Registrar-General under Sir John Davis
as well as up to his
ceiling, and for four years
leaving Hong Kong under his leave,
Prenom ; - during the whole of
which time he was also a
Member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong.

has been frequently sent to Canton
