In September 1828 Mr Johnston

was appointed

a writer in the

Civil Service of the Island of

Mauritius, and proceeded

immediately to that Island with the new Governor the late

Lieut. General Sir Charles Colville. And he

remained at the Mauritius

until 1832 Serving

during

the

former part of the time as an

assistant in the office of the Chief Secretary to Government,
