I'm reply to your letter 17:39 of this date I am instructed to convey to you by Excellency's sanction to the proposed expenditure of £30 for time to be cast on the burial ground to the Westward.
His Excellency cannot approve your proposition for the conversion of the Hooloon Parimente into a Cemetery for the (since out direct me to inform you that instructions have been given that day to the Honorable The Attorney General for the preparation of an Ordinance to regulate Chinese burials and to prevent other nuisance within the Colony
Mr. Austen will receive any suggestions that occur to you to make on the subject.

In reply to yours of the 7th of June and the several letters therein referred to I am directed to inform you that your case v. Lysting was discussed, this day at a sitting of the Legislative Council.
The unanimous opinion of the Council that the confirming Magistrates were in error has been duly communicated to the Acting Chief Magistrate who has been instructed so to inform the parties who dealt with him on the occasion.

I have the honor to acknowledge your letter of yesterday and am directed to inform you that the point laid down by The Magistrate as reported by you will receive His Excellency's consideration.
Aboo's case, however, seems in course of proper settlement and requires no further remarks.
As regards your duties under Ordinance 8 of 1856 His Excellency desires me to remind you that the special and extraordinary powers therein conveyed to you were given at your own request and His Excellency does not feel himself at liberty to virtually repeal that Ordinance because you experience difficulty in its enforcement.
Your authority under its clauses needs with care and discretion will it is hoped bring about the beneficial result expected by the Legislative Council on its enactment.
