Sir,
Having been nominated by Mr. Monsell to an appointment in the Surveyor General's Office at Hong Kong, and shall be ready to sail for that Colony on the 4th September.
I have the honor to report that I am informed by the Colonial Office, that any pay will not commence until the day I embark, viz. 4th Sept., and as I am struck off the strength of this district from the 19th July, I therefore lose 45 days pay. I would earnestly request that the Colonial Office be moved to date the Appointment from Lieut. the Bingayne,
Inspecting General of Fortifications.
