Governor to S. Bruhom referred in
1852 (4480.) that he had directed this Oriental Bank's notes to be taken at the local
Treasury until your Lordship's further instructions.
Received _ The Treasury is now suggesting " (1956) that there should be said they
did not see in 1852 - see any
objection
to the Governor's arrangement of receiving the notes in payment of
revenue, but
do not in 1856 consider that it would be expedient to make their notes legal tender!
I infer the meaning of this evasive Phrase `did not " is that the Treasury ignorant how far the actions of 1852
are
