The Colonial Ordinance (No. 9 of 1836) passed on May last. Every British ship and every ship carrying from any Port in China or within 100 miles of the coast thereof more than 20 Passengers being natives of Asia and bound for any Port beyond the Cape of Good Hope shall be deemed a Chinese Passenger Ship.

1 section 4 every Chinese Passenger Ship proceeding further provides (section 3) that: Every Passenger Ship clearing out from a Port in China or on the Coast for any Port, or within 100 miles thereof, for the purpose of commencing from such latter Port a voyage of more than seven days...
