General. He thinks that the late Acting Attorney
it is a good project and
in fact seems to have
had something to
do with
suggesting
it, but he entertains
doubts whether there
may
not be
other enterprises of public utility
which should have precedence. I must explain, is
He proposal,
that either the Holders of Marine
Lots should pay the expenses and
thereupon be allowed to retain
their encroachments without extra
rent, or else that the Colony should undertake the Work, but in that case that the Owners of Lots should pay
a rent
on the ground which they
have appropriated.
It is in the latter event that W.
Bridges
doubts whether there may not be other objects - such as
lighting, draining etc., which have
a greater demand on the Colonial Treasury. He has not much Confidence in the withdrawal
