Sir,

I am directed by the Earl of Clarendon to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 13th inst. on the subject of a communication which you have addressed to the Secretary of State for the Colonial Dept., a copy of which has been forwarded by Mr Labouchere to Lord Clarendon, containing a statement of your services whilst employed by Mr Gort in Spain and China, and in Mauritius. You request to be recommended to Her Majesty for some Honorable distinction.
