I detained there taken to compare the case with that which occurred recently at Antigua, but though analogous, they are not sufficiently similar to render the Antigua opinion applicable.
The difficulty here is, that the police certainly acted under the direct authority of an order which by evident implication dispenses with the necessity of a warrant. Still it is extremely expedient that they should be armed with such a document when they search in foreign vessels on suspicion of felony.
I think Sir J. B. should be told that this is it Law Officers' opinion, at the same time sending these papers. It has been actually so instructed already, by sending him the extract of 22 Clarendon's despatch of March 14.
