In acknowledging your despatch 1/12 of 28th September last, on the subject of certain correspondence with the Military Authorities regarding a saluting battery, I have to thank you for the support thus given to my authority by Her Majesty's Government.

The Right Honorable Sir John Pakington, after declining to approve the appointment of Lt. Col. Dunlop as Senior Military Officer to the Executive Council, thought proper in Dec. last, to make that appointment, which was presented to him by the majority of the Council in January. PS 17 Feb.
