At Foochow some substitute for the Spanish dollar now exclusively used there will be required. That port has, from its opening, drawn its supplies of coin from the stock of chopped dollars set free by the introduction of Mexican dollars at Canton. Large deductions from this stock are thus made every year, and presently it will become as difficult to find Ferdinand dollars for Foochow as it is now to find Carolus dollars for Shanghai.
